So here’s an idea, since in the western hemisphere the days are getting shorter and the nights are getting colder and cabin fever is setting in…make apple pie. Hey, it gets popular this time of year. There’s a reason, right? Of course there’s Thanksgiving and Christmas and etc. so people are going to be out looking for recipes for apple pie (and other kinds of pie as well…) So my thought is maybe you’re looking for different or unusual kinds of foods during the wintertime because of the often encroaching boredom and lack of Vitamin D from the sun…hmm?

There are basically two options for pie crusts: Make it yourself or buy a pie crust pre-made. Of course, if you buy one, it isn’t going to be the best you could possibly have, since it’s frozen, sits around on a shelf forever, and then re-thawed. But making a pie crust by hand is a pain and takes a while. You have the potential for better results, but you can also mess up.

So I guess it depends on how good a cook you are (or think you are), how much time you want to spend, and whether or not you’re a perfectionist in your pie making.

Apple Pie Ingredients usually include:

* Flour
* Salt
* Sugar (white, brown, or both!)
* Shortening
* Water
* Apples (of course ;)
* Cinnamon (optional)
* Other fruit (ocasionally :)

You can use butter instead of shortening, or you could omit some of the ingredients if you’re buying a pre-made crust. You can go to this apple pie site for a nice recipe.
